Privacy Policy
The short version
Savorant is a training app for your sense of taste. We collect what we need to run your account and keep your tasting record, and nothing else. We don't sell your data, we don't advertise to you, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
What we collect
- Your email address — to create your account, sign you in, and reset your password.
- Your display name and handle, if you set them.
- Confirmation that you are of legal drinking age — we check your date of birth when you sign up, and store only the fact that you passed and when. The date itself is not kept.
- Your tasting record — the sessions you file: the whiskey, the glass, food context, your descriptors, your intensity ratings, your written verdicts, and the results of drills and blind trials.
- A coded taster ID assigned to your account, used for research (see below).
What we do not collect
- No location data.
- No contacts, photos, or files.
- No advertising identifiers, and no third-party analytics or tracking software.
- No voice recordings. Dictation runs on your phone's own speech engine. Audio never leaves your device and never reaches us — we receive only the text you keep.
Research — and how it is separate
Savorant conducts sensory research — to develop and expand what the app can do, and to support further projects. Your records can contribute to it. That contribution is optional and separate from your account: it is off unless you turn it on in Settings, it names the exact version of what you agreed to, and you can withdraw with one tap at any time. Withdrawal stops all future inclusion.
When you have opted in, research uses your coded taster ID — never your name, handle, or email.
The mailing list
The home page has one optional field: an email address, if you want the mailing list. Joining stores exactly two things — your email address and the moment you gave it — in a file on our web host that is not reachable from the web. The list carries tasting tips and tricks, things worth knowing, and news of what is coming next in Savorant — written by a person, sent only when there is something worth your time. It is never sold, never shared, and never joined to any app account or tasting data. To leave, reply to any email or write to palate@savorant.com with the word “remove” and it is deleted, not archived.
Where your data lives
Accounts and tasting records are stored with Supabase (hosted on Amazon Web Services infrastructure in the United States), protected by row-level security so that your records are readable only by your own signed-in account. The app itself is served from IONOS hosting.
Deleting your account
Settings → Account → Delete account. It is permanent: your profile, sessions, descriptors, drill results, and blind records are erased from our servers along with your login. There is no recovery, so we ask you to type the word DELETE first. Research data already contributed under your coded ID before deletion may remain in the research corpus in de-identified form, as described at the time you consented.
Children
Savorant is for adults of legal drinking age and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect.
